We have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Manager to join our team in Dalton, Thirsk.

The main purpose of the role is to coordinate and manage connection design and drawing office activities within a project. Working alongside the Project Manager as a key part of the overall project team – liaising with the design teams and Client teams to obtain the necessary construction information required to complete the connection design, detailing, fabrication and erection of all steelwork and secondary packages within our scope of works. You will assist the Project Manager in the organising and management of projects safely and efficiently, within budget and to programme, consistent with Company Procedures, good practice and Statutory Legislation within our contractual obligations.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist all internal departments involved in the project to ensure the successful delivery of the project.
  • Assist by contacting all parties as required i.e. the Client, Client’s professional team, main contractor, subcontractors, and in-house departments, to ensure any problems are resolved and that information is obtained and issued to meet progressive deadlines in accordance with the programme.
  • Ensure all information provided by the Drawing Office is delivered on time and to the standard required by other disciplines within the company.
  • Liaise with our commercial department to record and evaluate variations to our contracted scope of works.
  • Ensure that any special requirements to facilitate the safe fabrication and erection of all components are identified, including temporary works and associated attachments.
  • Monitor the project programme working closely with the Project Manager to plan workload to meet programme dates and ensure drawing deliverables are issued in adequate time for the progress of the works.
  • Raise RFI’s / Technical Queries with the Client team (and their architectural and engineering representatives) for clarification and requests for additional information where required.
  • Manage the activities and quality of work produced by the Drawing Offices, to ensure drawings and models are delivered on programme and in the formats required.
  • Clear communication with the project teams, including producing progress reports for the activities under your control, identifying what stage the project is at, identifying any key risks etc.
  • Collate information from all trades that are relevant to us, bringing all information into one place and filtering out as appropriate to allow the wider team to carry out their works.

 

Essential Experience and Skills

  • Previous experience in structural steel.
  • Highly organised, self-motivated, and driven to contribute positively towards the successful delivery of a project.
  • Good communication, IT and administration skills – and the ability to prioritise workload to suit the demands of the project.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft packages – including Outlook, Word, Excel etc.
  • A good working knowledge of the design and construction principles of structural steelwork.
  • An understanding of good detailing practice and the production of clear unambiguous drawing information in an efficient and productive manner.
  • Paying close attention to detail, alongside the ability to see the bigger picture – the Technical Manager role is a key part in ensuring the successful delivery of a project, with emphasis on safety, quality, budget and programme.

 

The working hours for this role are, Monday - Thursday 8.30 - 17.15, Friday 8.30 - 15.00 with a 30 minute unpaid lunch break each day.
